It's Wednesday night, June 26, 1981. I am walking through the alleyway of this street. I can’t quite recall the name of it. I see a couple on the other end, lost in conversation. They have a little boy with them.
Then, out of nowhere, a few muggers surrounded them, demanding money and valuables. I knew what I had to do. I was prepared.
"I have the money you need!" I shout at them.
The burglars turn toward me.
"You are one dumb muthafucker, aren’t you? We’ve got two bags of silver now," they taunt, laughing among themselves.
"No... This time, I want you to leave them be."
With that, I activate my invisible cloak and disappear before their eyes.
"What the—!"
I disable the mugger closest to the couple with a jaw-breaking hit to the face. I break the arm of another and punch a third in the gut. Now, only the one who had taunted me remains—he has a gun in his hand.
Before he can point it at me, I appear in front of him in a flash and grab his hand. Twisting his wrist, I disarm him and deliver a headbutt. He collapses unconscious onto the road.
"Thank you, mister..." the couple says, relieved.
The boy looks at me with wonder. I stand there, staring at that family. I want to stay, move closer, give them a hug, and tell them how much I miss them. But I can’t let them know who I am. I am not allowed to tamper with the fabric of the universe.
"You take care. Goodbye."
And with that, I disappear.
I used Barry to help me figure out the technology to travel through time. But the decision was mine—my sole responsibility.
I have changed the course of my present timeline by saving that family—my family. By this very act, I have revoked my membership from the Justice League, effectively excommunicating myself.
Now, I must face death by execution or choose to live and fight the mightiest beings in my universe, my former allies... I have mere moments to decide before my world turns against me for the crime I have committed. And I do not intend to go down without a fight.
"My name is Bruce Wayne.
But I... am Batman."
